Obituary

Beulah Odessa Wells (95) of Grosse Pointe City, Michigan passed away peacefully April 1 surrounded by her family. She was born Dec. 29, 1915 in Londonderry Station, Nova Scotia. Beulah was the daughter of the late Ward and Odessa (Smith) Giddens. Her husband, Edward William Wells (Ted), preceded her in death. Her sister, Irene (Ralph Soley), as well as her brothers, Hibbert (Molly MacDonald), Arnold (Marion Mattatall), Aubrey (Effie Ripley), and foster sisters Eva Gray (Morris Blaikie), and Ida Gray (John McNairn) predeceased her. She is survived by her children Margaret Wells (Bill Nanich), Ellen Byrnes (John) and Edward Wells (Chantalle). She has eight grandchildren, Christopher Glowney (Cindy), Jason Glowney (Saba), Nathan Byrnes (Jenny), Alana Byrnes, Mark Wells, Jeff Wells (Amy), Jordan Wells and Isaac WellsShe also has five great grandchildren, Kelcey Glowney, Braden Glowney, Connor Byrnes, Mackenzie Byrnes and Meygan GlowneyJean Smith Cox (Bill Adams), foster sister, survives her, as does sister-in-law Effie. Beulah lived and worked during the war years in Montreal, Quebec, as a draftsperson, where she met Ted Wells. They initially settled in London, Ontario and eventually moved to Grosse Pointe in June 1963Her biggest accomplishment was her love of her family and caring for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed years of membership and friendship in the Daughters of the British Empire, Princess Beatrice Chapter, Questors, Grosse Pointe Congregational Church and several Bible study groups. Her interests included gardening and antique collecting. She was a wonderful lady and friend with a very big heart. Beulah was proud to be a Bluenoser; she loved her homeland, Nova Scotia, and returned there most summers to enjoy her family and cottage in Economy. During the last several years of her life, Beulah was fortunate to have caretakers who were also great friends: Janet Tucker and Denise Hawley worked hard to make Beulah’s time on earth comfortable and allowed her to stay in her home. A memorial service was held at Grosse Pointe Congregational Church, 240 Chalfonte, Grosse Pointe Farms on April 16. Interment will be at a later time at Memory Gardens in Breslau, Ontario, and Mahon Cemetery, Great Village, Nova Scotia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Michigan Humane Society.
