Cummer, Hazel Doreen (Mingo), 77, Hilden , passed away Sunday, November 2, 2008 in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in Truro she was the daughter of the late William and Dorothy (Steele) Mingo. Hazel loved having her children, grandchildren, friends and family visit with her. She is survived by her husband, George; daughters, Georgie Blenkhorn (Stephen), Truro, Carolin (Joe) Palmer, North Battleford, Sk; son, Clifford (Louella), Belmont; five sisters; seven brothers; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by daughter Ruth and son-in-law David Blenkhorn; son, David; granddaughter, Kimberly; sister, Kathleen Taylor; brothers, Edward, Tommy and Gordie. Pettis, Beverley Mary “Bev” … 63, Debert, passed away peacefully, with family at her side, at 1:30 pm Monday, October 27, 2008 in Colchester Regional Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer since 1988. Born September 20, 1945 in Montreal, she was a daughter of Denis Rivet, Montreal and the late Rita (McMahon) Rivet. Along with her father, Bev is survived by her loving husband, Gary; children, Alicia, Victoria, British Columbia; Jason (Bree Rudolph), Dartmouth; sister, Irene Rivet, Montreal; brother, Gary Rivet, Montreal; mother-in-law, Shirley Pettis, Parrsboro; other loving members of the Pettis family. Wyllie, Betty Marie - 79, Truro, passed away peacefully November 6, 2008 with her loving daughters by her side at home. Born December 16, 1928 in Half Island Cove, Guysborough Co., she was a daughter of the late Elias and Kathleen Hendsbee. Betty is survived by daughters, Gail Wyllie, Liz (Lawrence) Jobb, both of Truro; Margie (Jeff) Clarke, Ottawa; grandchildren, Danielle Geddes, Ryan and Brad Jobb, Jeffrey, Cody and Victoria Clarke; great-grandchildren, Aaron, Olivia, Malaysha and Kassey; brothers, Leo, Harvey and Reg; sisters, Gertie, Rachael and Edna; many loving nephews and nieces. Betty was predeceased by her husband, Max in 1978 and sisters, Esther and Berdina. Funeral service was held on Monday, November 10th, with Pastor Henry Boehm officiating. Carruthers, Agnes Marie, 89, Truro passed away November 7, 2008 in Colchester Regional Hospital. Born in Belmont, December 3, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Willis and Minerva (Crowe) Roode of Belmont. Agnes graduated from Colchester County Academy and Provincial Normal College. She taught in several Colchester County schools including Willow Street School in Truro for 16 years, retiring in 1981. She is survived by sons Gerald (Ellen), Bass River, Leigh (Lynda), Hilden and Kim (Carolyn), Moncton, N.B.; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; sister, Hilda Stevens, Truro; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband, Roger; son James (in infancy); four sisters, Myrtle Gazley, Hazel Clarke, Erma Culgin, Jeanette Davison; four brothers, Clarence, Arnold, Perley and twin brother Albert (in infancy). Fisher, M. Genevieve - 85, of Parkland Estates, Halifax, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 27, 2008 in the Colchester Regional Hospital. Born in Bass River, she was the daughter of the late John and Bessie Gamble. She is survived by sons, John and wife Lorna (McCully), Truro; Jim and wife Brenda (Ferdinand), Hilden; sisters, Gladys (Mrs. Gerald Cooke), Truro; Lucille (Mrs. John Seaman), Valley, Colchester County; grandchildren, Deborah Fisher (Patrick Brigham) and Jeffrey Fisher, Toronto; Andrew Fisher (Lori Glenn), Rothesay, New Brunswick; Lisa Hemeon (Steve), Winnipeg; two great grandchildren, Lauren and Emily Fisher, Rothesay; several nieces and nephews. Downing, Virginia (nee Webb), passed away peacefully on Friday, September 26, 2008, at the Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro, surrounded by family and friends. Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Stewart and Charlotte (Langille) Webb. Clark, Eleanor Mae, 88, Hilden and formerly of Truro passed away October 5, 2008 in Val’s Rest Home, Hilden with her granddaughter Debbie by her side. Born in Lattie’s Brook, she was a daughter of the late John and Louisa Lattie. Eleanor’s greatest strength came from her faith in God. STEVENS, Pearl Mineva - 104, Cedarstone Enhanced Care, formerly of Debert, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 12, 2008 in the home. MacDonald, Cpl. James Andrew, 55, of Truro, passed away suddenly at home, Thursday, October 2, 2008. Born June 24, 1953 in Sydney, NS, he was the son of the late James MacDonald and Eleanor MacLeod. A graduate of Holland College, Jim began his 35 year policing career in Newcastle, NB and Sydney, NS and spent the last 28 years with Truro Police. He was also a guest instructor in breathalyzer/data master for Holland College and the RCMP. Jim will be forever missed by his best friend and wife of 34 years, Judy (McNabb); sister, Patsy (Raymond) Foley, brother, Vincent, both of Sydney, NS and many extended family members throughout Nova Scotia. McCully, Ronald Lloyd, 58, Valley, passed away suddenly at home on Thursday, October 23, 2008. Born in Parrsboro on October 18, 1950, he was a son of the late Lloyd and Hazel (Dowe) McCully. Ronald retired in 1995 from MT&T after 27 years of service. He then owned and operated his construction business, “Sandy’s Excavating” in Valley. Ronnie is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Sandra (Newcombe) and his faithful companion, Morgan. Memorial service was held October 26 with Rev. Brian DeLong officiating. McCulloch, Garth Lavene, 91, of Truro and formerly of Debert, passed away peacefully to the presence of his Lord, Thursday, October 23, in the Colchester Regional Hospital Truro. He was born in Debert, May 22, 1917, to Angus and Muriel (Patriquin) McCulloch. He was the oldest of six children. He is survived by son, James (Rena), Halifax; granddaughters, Carol Boyce, Halifax and Keltie Priddle (Phil), Ottawa; great-grandchildren, Keltie Neilsen (Eric), Laura Boyce, Rachel, Mark and Matthew Priddle; wife, Pauline (Blaikie, Grant); brother, Dean (Alva), Brampton, ON; sisters, Marjorie Ralston, Wentworth; Eleanor Carter, Etobicoke, ON; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Gladys Johnston; brother, Lyle; sister, June Head; brothers-in-law, Ivan Ralston and Gordon Carter; grandson-in-law, Bruce Boyce. Garth was in partnership with his father, operating a lumber business in Debert, NS, for many years. During this time he showed a keen interest in his cousin, Arthur Patriquin’s funeral home business in Great Village. In the early 1950’s he bought the business and operated under the name McCulloch Patriquin until 1983 when he sold to the Mattatall Funeral Home, Truro. He continued his valuable presence until 2002, having given 50 years to the occupation he carried out with compassion and devotion. Garth had a great fondness for the preaching of the gospel. LAM, Herman John, 84, Truro passed away peacefully on August 25, 2008 in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in Holland, he was a son of the late Hendrick and Carolina (VanFleet) Lam of Holland. Herman came to Canada with his wife, Antonia in 1951 where he served on the Land Settlement Board. He began his own company, the Atlantic Travel Service in 1961. He also hosted the radio program “The Netherlands Call” for 30 years on CKCL. He is survived by daughters, Marion (Doug) Stanfield-Johnson, Halifax; Sylvia (Freddie) Hutchinson, Brookfield; grandchildren, Matthew and Shane Hutchinson, Brookfield. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Antonia (Kinduryte); son, Henry and sister, Jane. No visitation by request. Funeral service was held August 27th in John Calvin Christian Reformed Church. HUTCHINSON, Marjorie Lena, 68, Bonaccord, Alberta, passed away August 31, 2008 in Red Deer Hospital, Alberta after a two year battle with cancer. Born in Lockhartville, Kings Co., on September 9, 1939, she was a daughter of the late Waldo and Laura (Thompson) Hutchinson. GILROY, David Gordon, 69, Truro passed away August 31, 2008 at home after a brief illness. Born in Springhill, he was a son of the late Aubrey and Ruth (Graham) Gilroy. David was town clerk and treasurer for the town of Truro for 38 years, retiring in 2001. CLOUGH, David Roy Sr., 79, North River. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax on August 31, 2008. Born in Quebec on October 4, 1928, he was a son of the late Frank and Alice (Hunter) Clough. He married Florence Annie Brown in 1962 and together they created and executed one of Canada’s largest frozen food transportation licenses in R. Clough Transport throughout the 1970’s and 80’s. Retirement found them in North River near family and friends where they once also owned/operated the North River Service Station. After Florence passed away in November, 2000, “Pappa” found an autumn love with Leona Deal of Halifax (White’s Lake). He is also survived by his children, Donna, Audra, David, Kevin, Linda; brother, Leslie; sisters, Kaye and Linda; 18 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren. TAYLOR, Anna Isabell (Murray), of Lower Onslow, passed away in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow on September 4, 2008. Born in Earltown in 1915, she was a daughter of the late John and Julia (Sweet) Murray. She lived all her married life in Lower Onslow. She was the last surviving member of her family. She is survived by her 6 daughters, Betty (Foster Oatway) P.E.I, Arlene (Doug Oatway) Lower Onslow, Verna (Allan Marchbank) Onslow Mountain, Carol, (Bob McSwain) Lower Onslow, Julia Taylor, Debert, Annette (Ivan Langille) Enfield, her 3 sons, Jack (Jean) Manganese Mines, Ken (Kathy) Brookfield and Bill (Suzanne) Ottawa, 26 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren and 15 great great grandchildren. MILLER, Faye (Corbett) passed away peacefully at Peck’s Nursing Home on Monday July 21st, 2008 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease and, more recently, Cancer. Faye moved to Peck’s in February of 2008. Faye was born in Bass River in 1924, the daughter of Winona (Hegan) and George Corbett. She was sister to Kathleen, Max, Aileen, Hughie, and Neil, all deceased. Faye lived in Bass River until she joined the Air Force in 1943. After military service, she attended Veteran’s School where she met her husband, Robert Miller (deceased 1994). Faye lived and worked in Toronto at Simpson Sears until she and Robert retired in 1985 and returned to Bass River. No Service by request. A time of fellowship and refreshments in Faye’s memory will take place on Friday, August 8th from 2:00 to 4:00 PM in the Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home in Truro. Faye’s ashes will be buried beside her husband, Robert, in the family plot at the United Baptist Cemetery in a private family service.

ORR, Marlene Gertrude, 62, Truro passed away peacefully Sunday, July 27, 2008 in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro after a brief battle with cancer. Born Dec. 2, 1945 in Woodstock, NB, she was the daughter of birth parents, the late Kathleen and Arnold Hamilton. She was raised from the age of 2 by her “mom and dad”, the late Elwood and Marcia Kitchen. She was the beloved wife of 42 years to Robert (Bob) Orr and mother to Anthony John (Cheryl), CFB Shilo, MB and Kelly Lee, CFB Greenwood, NS; grandchildren, Tamara Mary and Brendon Robert; sister to Dale, Rhea, William, James, Richard, Clifford Kitchen and Wayne Kitchen. Marlene worked for many years at Sherwin Williams and Tibbetts Paints. Cremation has taken place. Interment in Woodstock Rural Cemetery, Woodstock, NB on August 1st at 2pm

NEWELL, Roy Joseph - 59, Braeshore/Truro, passed away at home on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Truro, he was the son of the late Morris and Ella (Heisler) Newell. Roy was a well respected building contractor in the Truro area for 30 years. HARVEY, Claudina C. “Todd” – 81, of Parrsboro passed away peacefully with family by her side on Thursday, August 7, 2008 at South Cumberland Community Care Centre, Parrsboro. Born in Parrsboro, she was a daughter of the late Morton “Mott” and Irma (Carter) Durant. Dow, Susan Lynn (Knight) - With sadness the family announces the sudden passing of Susan Lynn Dow (Knight) at her home in London, Ontario on August 8th, 2008. Born in Truro, July 28th 1958, she was the only daughter of Ross D. and Doris (Langille) Knight, Bible Hill. Besides her parents she is survived by her son, Ross Dow, Toronto, Ont.; brother, Louis (Suzanne) Knight, niece Krystie, nephew’s Eddie and Jonathan Knight all of Truro. Also survived by Aunts and Uncles Jean (Harold) Corbett, Joyce Knight, Phyllis (Grant) Putnam, Caroline (Bill) Simpson and Doug Simpson as well as numerous cousins. She was also survived by ex-husband Gary Dow and friend Dean St.Germaine. Interment in Portaupique Cemetery. Family flowers only. Born in Sanford, Maine, she was a daughter of the late Henri and Annie (Legere) Babineau. Lauraine attended Faith Baptist Church, Great Village. She and her husband Ernest owned and operated a General Store in Londonderry. She was a former cook having cooked for West Colchester Consolidated School in Bass River. She is survived by sons, Charles Nelson (Debbie) of Scarborough, ON, Gerald Nelson (Shirley) of Truro, Vernon Nelson of Londonderry; daughters, Evelyn Jacobs of Ottawa, ON, Susan Patriquin (Lee) of Tatamagouche, Marion Joudrie (Bill) of Great Village; grandchildren, Paul, Mandy, Glen, Mallory, Kathleen, Brian; 4 great-grandchildren; sister Nola Drisdelle (Art) of Halifax. She was predeceased by her first husband Vernon V. FRANCIS, Stephen Allison, Great Village passed away suddenly on Saturday August 9, 2008. Born and raised in Halifax, Steve was the son of the late Lexi (neé Currie) and the late Arthur Francis. Steve graduated from QEH in Halifax and worked in Halifax until moving to Great Village in 1985. Steve was a strong believer in community and volunteered as scout leader, baseball coach, charity “barbequer”, and many other “volun-told” activities as well as an outstanding officer and radio operator of the Great Village Fire Brigade. In his younger years he loved playing hockey and baseball and the last few years his time with the Fire Brigade Dart team meant the world to him. Steve is survived and missed by his wife of 32 years, Terry, sons Michael (Jonna MacDonald), Jonathon (Kathy), daughter Allison (Bjorn Merzbach), brother Bill (Gail) Francis, Lr. Sackville, sisters Barbara (Doug) Dubé, Bedford, Susan (Terry) Chatham, Cole Harbour, Sandy (George) Thomas, Dartmouth, and Donna Francis, Halifax, sisters-in law, Cheryl MacRae, Vancouver, Brenda MacRae at home, and Sandy (Ticky) Francis, Lr.
