WILSON, Pearl Elizabeth (Peppard) – Age 87, Onslow Mountain, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2023, in Debert Court – Shannex surrounded by her family. Born in Onslow Mountain, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Ellen (Pratt) Peppard. Pearl loved puzzles, crosswords, reading and writing stories about events near and far. She would often call and sing happy birthday to friends and neighbours. In her early years, Pearl served five years as a clerical typist with rank as a Corporal in the RCAF. She worked for 28 years in both the Annex and the Colchester Regional Hospital in Truro.

LINDSAY, Dexter Leslie - 82, Truro, passed away on April 14, 2023. Dexter was born in Belmont, Colchester County, to the late Alfred Steel Lindsay and Pearl Mae (Morrisey). He was the youngest of six children and has been predeceased by brothers, Sam (Bella) and John; and sisters, Clara (Irvin) and Elsie (Steven). He is survived by his brother, Russell Lindsay (Ann, deceased). Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where the family received friends on Wednesday, April 19, 2023. A private family burial will be held at a later date.

CLARKE (PARKER), Carla Maureen - It is with great sadness we must announce the passing of Carla Maureen Clarke (Parker) on April 6th, 2023, peacefully at home. Born March 27^th, 1965, to Kay and Lester Parker, Carla was a determined, serious kid with a strong competitive streak. She was a graduate of the East Hants Regional High School Class of ‘83 and went on to Thunder Bay graduating from Confederation College as an interior designer.  An excellent student, artist and athlete, Carla spent most of her childhood playing on the farm with her siblings, Leslie and Lori, drawing and coloring at the kitchen table, even when Kay begged her to go outside, but most of all in her favorite place, the chalk circle on the ballfield. This is where she truly shined as an athlete with multiple championship wins and a trip to the 1985 Canada Games. Softball was a lifelong love. Her time on the field led to so many friendships that she cherished and memories that she looked back on with pride and joy. Softball also introduced her perfect match, David. She would always say he was so shy when he was coaching her team, but after a few attempts, the pair finally made it official and built a beautiful life together. Together they continued their love of sports, ball and curling, and passed down their love of the game and talent to their two daughters, Taylor and Madison. The ultimate sports mom, Carla never missed a game, practice or big moment in her girls’ lives. She motivated and guided them through summers on the field and winters in the curling club and hockey rink. Softball continued to be a passion as she helped Dave coach multiple teams to provincial championships, each team and player holding a special place in her heart. While sports were her passion, Carla did it all. Dedicated to education, she was always involved with the girls’ school, volunteering her time, helping with homework and instilling in them, a strong work ethic.

Though her time with us was too short, she made the best of it. She mastered every title: daughter, sister, athlete, wife, mother, coach and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her. She is survived by her husband, David Clarke; daughters, Taylor Clarke and Madison Baker; son-in-law, Cole Baker; parents, Lester and Kay Parker and siblings, Leslie (Linda) Parker, Lori Higgins and husband, Todd Higgins and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Dr. Donald Rowe and his Oncology team as well as the Palliative care team for their outstanding care. They would also like to thank the many friends who supported both Carla and the family through this trying time. WHEBBY, William "Bill" John – Age 64, passed away peacefully at home in the early morning of April 8, 2023. Bill was born on January 21, 1959, and was raised in Dartmouth, NS where he attended P.A. High School. He then went on to raise his sons and followed in the footsteps of generations before him, working in the family business. He was a smart businessman and very skilled in carpentry and construction. Over the years, Bill enjoyed being out in nature, hunting or fishing. His favourite being moose hunting or salmon fishing with friends and/or one of his Labrador Retrievers. He always enjoyed his trips to Newfoundland and spending time at his favourite camp on Rocky Lake. Anyone that knew Bill knew that he was strong-willed and never afraid to speak his mind. That was part of what made him so resilient. Bill was predeceased by his wife, Sandra Lowe Whebby and his father, Jack Whebby.

SIMON, Lana Darlene McLeod, August 30, 1962 - April 17, 2023 - We are very sorry to announce the passing of Lana Mcleod Simon, at the age of 60 years. She passed peacefully in the morning hours of Monday, April 17, 2023, in the Colchester East Hants Health Center, after a long battle with cancer. Lana was born on August 30, 1962, to the late Jim McLeod of Ontario, and the late Zena Tattrie of Westville.

She lived her early years in Truro working at many of the local bars, such as the Engine Room and Scotland Yard. She was a homemaker for many years and was a very caring and loving mother. Lana enjoyed 4x4 racing, old cars and trucks, motorcycles, music, dancing and especially spending time with her son, Robert, and her grandsons, Caleb and Logan. She loved plants and flowers and spending time outdoors. She loved to attend music festivals and concerts, and spending time with her friends. She loved old movies and TV shows, and especially enjoyed books and reading. Lana was preceded in death by her parents, Jim McLeod and Zena (Tattrie). She is survived by her son, Robert and his father, Rick Simon; her daughter-in-law, Tamara (MacPhee); her grandsons, Caleb and Logan Simon, as well as her many friends, especially Lynn and Luke. We would like to thank the wonderful palliative care doctors and nurses in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre who provided Lana with exceptional care in her final weeks and days. We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. A celebration of Lana’s life was held at the family home in Hilden, on Friday, April 21, 2023.

COOPER, Harry "Elroy" – Age 80, Cross Roads, passed away on April 19, 2023. Born in Upper Stewiacke, he was the son of the late Harry and Muriel Cooper. Elroy will be deeply missed by his wife, Bessie; daughter, Darlene, Alberta; sons, Albert, Alberta and Stewart, Upper Stewiacke; sisters, Faye Deyarmond, Sharon Gay and Sylvia Archibald, all of Truro as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

BATES, Margaret – Age 101, Truro, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2023, in Willow Lodge, Tatamagouche surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 8, 1921, she was a daughter of the late George and Alice (Sutherland) MacKay. Mom grew up on the family farm at The Falls with her four brothers and four sisters. She moved to Truro and married our Dad, Jim Bates, in 1941. She worked for many years at Stanfield’s while raising her seven daughters. Mom was a dedicated and loving wife and mother. She especially enjoyed family gatherings. She also enjoyed travelling with Dad and spending winters in Florida during her retirement. Mom will always be remembered for her homemade bread, baked beans, sugar cookies and her strong sense of independence. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Legion Branch #26 as well as a member of the First United Church in Truro. She leaves behind her daughters, Shirley Thomas, Diane Kennedy, Linda MacKinnon, Joan Matheson, Mary MacKay (David) and Heather Bates (Gerard); grandsons, Donald Thomas (Debra), Todd Kennedy (Laura), Jamie MacKinnon, Jeffrey Terfry (Rylee) and Patrick Terfry (Lindsey); granddaughters, Kim Dowling (Jim), Tammy Kennedy-Fortune (Mark), Jody Matheson, Melanie Casey (Shawn), Christina Wylie (Adam) and Sherri Pugsley (David); sister, Norma Normand; thirteen great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. PRIEST, Wayne Courtenay - It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing on May 12, 2023. Wayne was born in Diligent River, Cumberland County, on March 17, 1944, but he resided most of his life in Belmont, Colchester County. He was a devoted child of God, husband, father, Bumpa (grandfather and great grandfather), and friend. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly sixty years, Valerie Ann (Nichols) Priest; his children Connie (Andy) Bokma, Amanda (Kevin MacDonald) Priest, and Matthew (Gena) Priest; his grandchildren from Connie: Laura (James) Miedema, Julia (Doug) Wiens (Dryden and Bennett), Jordan (Kendra) Bokma (Finley), and Alex Bokma; from Amanda: Bijoux (Justin) Martell (Jasper); from Matt: Michaela Priest (Cameron Graham), and Mallory Priest. Wayne had a special bond with his brother-in-law Gordon (Marg) Nichols and always considered him his brother and best friend.

WEATHERBEE, Stuart Leon – Age 70 - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our courageous and kind-hearted, coffee-loving husband, Dad, and Grampy. Stuart spent most of his youth in Wentworth, NS, riding his motorcycle and sometimes getting into trouble. He also loved camping, gardening, and enjoying the outdoors. He worked at Intertape Polymer for 38 years before his retirement.

Stuart could usually be found with a mug of Tim Horton’s coffee in the morning, afternoon, or evening while socializing and people watching. He loved four-wheeling with his wife, Blesilda, and going for long drives with no particular destination - but with lots of coffee! In the springtime, Stuart could be found in his sugar-shack boiling maple syrup, the memories taking him back to his childhood.

He adored and loved all his grandchildren very much, always enjoying their sleepovers and visits where all shared a common interest in four-wheeling and trucks. Stuart loved listening to live music and dancing, trying to teach us all to two-step, and if you were lucky enough to meet Stuart, you might have been on the receiving end of his humorous or smart remarks; he really enjoyed a bit of good-natured teasing.

Stuart was also very loved by his extended Filipino family, and was known as Ninong, Kuya, and Tito Payat. We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the home palliative team, the VON, and E2 and the Palliative care staff at Colchester East Hants Health Centre. Stuart is survived by his loving wife of eleven years, Besilda Weatherbee; his daughters, Cathy (Wade) Parker, Bible Hill; Tammy Hughes (Brandon Gill), Salmon River; Crystal (Josh) Stokdijk, Middle Stewiacke; step-daughter, Shawna (Scott) Morrel and family; grandchildren, Logan, Kyle, Summer, Wyatt, Emett, Willa-Marie, Rhett, Chad, Lindsay and Mason; sister, Ann Letourneau, Windsor, Ontario; brother Charles (Susan) Weatherbee, Amherst as well as many nieces and nephews. HUGGARD, Dr. Richard James "Dick" -Age 87, Truro, passed peacefully on January 8, 2023, in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Dick was born on a farm in Norton, NB to the late Russell and Lillian (Gillies) Huggard. He was a loving husband to Marjorie (MacRae); father to Richard (Heather) and Lesley (Shawn Evans); brother to Bob Huggard and the late Marian Lines and a caring grandfather to James (Junghye), Ian, Willa, and Lucy. He is fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Dick graduated from the NSAC in 1956 and in 1958, he received his BSc from MacDonald College of McGill University. In 1965, he completed his MSc from the University of Illinois. He joined the Nova Scotia Dept of Agriculture and Marketing in 1958 and ended his career as Deputy Minister of Agriculture from 1991 -1994. Dick played hockey at the collegiate level at NSAC and MacDonald College, and also played in the Truro District Hockey League. He never gave up on his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs, always saying, "This will be our year." In 1996, he was awarded the Erland Lee Award for his work and contribution with the Women’s Institute of Canada. He also travelled to Beijing, Hong Kong, and Taiwan in 1999 as chair of the Canadian Agri-Food Research Council. Dick was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Dalhousie University (NSAC) in 2006 and was inducted into the Atlantic Agriculture Hall of Fame in 2015 along with many other awards. Many children were significantly impacted by his many years of involvement in 4-H. Dick volunteered countless hours with many different organizations, most notably the Farm Equipment Museum in Truro and the Cobequid Salmon Association. He also served two terms as Warden at St. John’s Anglican Church. His hobbies included fly fishing, fly tying, woodworking and he painted beautiful detailed wooden birds that are treasured by many around the world. A loving grandfather, "Bockiey" always had a sparkle in his eye when he talked about his grandchildren’s talents and accomplishments. He enjoyed summers at the family cottage in Marshville, NS and trips to the camp in Liscombe. Most of all, he enjoyed meeting as many new people as possible and learning all about them. We’re sure that in heaven, as on earth, he will know and enjoy a chat with everyone he sees. He often spoke about all the "good people" he had encountered in his life. Dick was a very kind gentleman who always found goodness in everyone. The family wishes to thank RN Rebecca (D3) and Dr. Dave Henderson in the Colchester East Hants Health Center, Truro. HENNIGAR, Wesley Eugene – Age 86, Truro, Nova Scotia. It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Wesley Eugene Hennigar on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, in Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro. Born in Northfield on July 22, 1936, Wes was a son of the late Wilfred and Bessie (Miller) Hennigar. In the late 1950’s, Wes was a self-taught, self-employed butcher. He raised his own cattle and pedaled it from his homestead in Northfield to Halifax. In the mid 1960’s, he entered the trucking industry. He started his own company, W.E. Hennigar Transport Feed Specialty. In 1968, Wes was the first to haul bulk feed to Newfoundland. He had a lot of firsts in the industry. After 20 years of running the business, he sold it. Wes then had his hand in many ventures, so many that if you were to include them all, it would take up the whole page. Wes lived a full life; between work and his family he always had something on the go. You couldn’t go anywhere with him unless you were prepared to spend the whole day, as he knew everyone. He was always laughing and telling jokes. If it wasn’t a joke Wes was telling, it was one of his many stories. In his later years, Wes met Margie Publicover and the two spent the last 23 years enjoying retirement. Between going to dances, bowling and driving along the shore, they kept each other busy. Wes was a beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather. He will be deeply missed by his partner, Margie Publicover; daughter, Dawn (Blair) Troop; sons, Larry (Shirley) Hennigar and Greg (Joanne) Hennigar; grandchildren, Carla (Marcos) Trinidad, Jason (Sarah) MacLeod, Jenni (Daniel) Sill, Drew (Monica) Hennigar, Brenée (Jordan) Hennigar, Kaitlyn Hennigar, Peggy (Ali) MacEachern, Paula (Robbie) Higgins and Trish (Caleb) Higgins; twelve great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

TEED, Wayne "Shaggy" David– Age 54, Debert. It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Wayne, fondly known as "Shaggy," on January 24, 2023, after a four-year battle with a rare brain disease. Wayne passed away at home with Tamara, Charlie and his two dogs by his side. He is survived by his wife, Tamara; daughter, Charlie; stepson, Blaine (Liz); parents, Betty and David Teed, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. Wayne was predeceased by paternal grandparents, Charlie and Sylvia Teed; maternal grandparents, Willis Manthorne and Greta Manthorne-Titus; aunt, Barb and uncles, Terry and Brian as well as in-laws, Roy and Karen Green. Wayne worked in the woods for many years, also at Truro Agromart for 23 years and then Koltech Windows and Entrance Systems for ten years. In his spare time, he loved being up the mountain (Belmont) four wheeling and snowmobiling, doing work around the yard and spending time at the camp in Hart Lake. His pride and joy in life were his two girls, his wife, Tamara and daughter, Charlie whom he loved so much. He was always so proud of his daughter with whom he shared a birthday. Wayne was a huge animal lover, especially his dogs, Frankie and Jaxon, who will miss him dearly. Donations in his memory may be made to any SPCA, animal shelter or veterinary clinic of your choice. NOONAN, Charles "Charlie" James – age 77, Truro, formerly of Borden, PEI. With great sadness, the family of Charles Noonan announces his passing on February 6, 2023, in The Mira Long Term Care Centre, Truro. He was born on July 11, 1945, in Borden to Pauline Milligan, currently residing in Charlottetown, PEI. Charles is survived by his son, Michael (Amber) DeCoste, Miscouche, PEI; daughter, Kendra (Vince) Arseneau, Pleasant Valley, NS; son, Jason (Jen) Noonan, Truro, NS; grandchildren, Jeffery, Melissa, Aaron, Reagan, Nicole, Abby and Brandon; great grandchildren, Denika, Brett, Maddy, Braeden and Everleigh; great-great grandson, Tate; sisters, Brenda Forrester, Charlottetown, PEI, and Paula White, Borden-Carleton, PEI; brother, Rodney Milligan, Stratford, PEI as well as many nieces, nephews and in-laws. Besides his beloved wife, Carol, he was predeceased by his stepfather, Jack Milligan, and brothers, Robert and Richard Milligan. Charles drove for Albany Cartage (trucking company of Lafarge Canada) for almost 40 years and was very committed to his job. He loved to drive. Many could learn from his personality – he was kind and friendly, lived minimally, was always more concerned about those around him rather than himself, but could still pull a funny joke. He will be deeply mourned and missed by many. Donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society.

McCALLUM, Sherry - On February 7, 2023, we lost a one-of-a-kind mother, sister, aunt, and dear friend. Sherry McCallum, 58, of Salmon River left us with an empty spot in our hearts. Born and bred a true Brookside Road gal (and proud of it!), she spent her earlier years here before heading to Ontario. There, she spread her wings and made a life for herself for a short time, before returning home to Brookside when her mother, Greta Langille (McCallum) took ill, leaving Mom to help care for her parents in their final years. After losing her mother and her father, William (Willie) McCallum, Mom continued her selflessness and caring ways by taking in her Uncle Lester McCallum, whom she also cared for until he passed.

Mom had a love for life and was always up for a good time. Whether it was trips around the track at 2am, a house party at one of her sisters' homes, or the company of one of her dearest friends. She loved a good party and good music and would often be the last one up dancing and singing to her favourites. Mom had the best friends in her life, but we all know her dearest and most loyal for her entire life was Cindy Bodenham. These two had a bond like no other and we appreciate all that Cindy has done to help care for her over the years. Mom was known for her smile that would light up a room and her laugh that was so contagious. She would often joke about her big sister, Bonnie MacSwain (Mike) knowing everyone wherever they went, but the rest of the family joked about the amount of people that knew Mom. Being an employee of the NSLC for 20+ years, she was known by most of Truro and surrounding areas. Mom and Dad "Big Rob" had one daughter, Danielle (Scott McNutt), who was the light of their life. Danielle and Scott made her a Gammy to two beautiful girls, Maci and Mariah, whom she enjoyed bragging about regularly. Mom came from a large family as the baby of the crowd. She is survived by her sisters, Bonnie and Donna; brothers, Tom (Sue) Wink, Pooker (Joanne), and Stephen (Val). Sherry is also survived by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great great nieces. Besides her parents, Sherry was predeceased by sisters, Margie, Doreen, Lena, Judy and Debbie, and of course her beloved furbaby, Toddles. A special thank you to VON Colchester East Hants who gave my Mom the most exceptional care, and provided meaningful friendship to her daily. Another thank you goes to the nurses and doctors of Palliative Care who did everything they could for her and our family. In true Sherry fashion and in her own words, she said, "Don't have no funeral for me, have a party! I want people to dance, laugh, and sing!" so that is what we will do. Please join us while we show Mom one last good time on Friday, March 3, 2023, at 4pm for refreshments at the Truro Horsemen’s Club, located at 288 Main St, Bible Hill, with live entertainment by Flipside starting at 6pm. 

STAPLES, Keith Earle - Onslow, formerly of Belmont, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2023, surrounded by family in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Truro on February 28, 1946, to the late Grant and Jean (Weatherbee) Staples. Keith leaves behind his wife and love of his life, Bonita (Muise) and his children, Keith (Julie), Cindy (Chris), Robert (Francie) and Matthew (Rachel).  He will be missed by his grandchildren who were the reason for his biggest smiles, Ashley, Anna, Jared, Danika, Hayden, Erica and Paisley and great grandchildren, Logan, Zach, Jeremy, Avery, Emma. He also leaves behind his brothers, Karl, Bob, Rocky, Gary (Audrey), Blaine "Bink" (Linda) and sisters, Gayle (Gary) Bigney, Carol (Howard) Parsons; several brothers and sisters-in-law and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides his parents, Keith was predeceased by his father and mother-in-law, Ernest and Mary (McCormick) Muise; step-mother, Clara (Beaver) Staples; brothers, Dana, Scott, Blaine and sister, Susan, as well as many brothers and sisters-in-law. Keith spent most of his working years as a finish drywaller with Kent Homes and he worked in the woods for the Barnhill family during the off seasons with Kent Homes.  He could build anything, from a motor to a shelf.  Keith could always be found watching a Nascar race or playing racing games.  He would always have lively discussions with his children, trying to get them worked up with a good argument. PARLEE, Charles Foster "Charlie" – Lower Onslow - July 4, 1942 - February 17, 2023. It is with immense sadness that we announce the death of Charlie in Truro hospital. Born in Summerside, PEI, Charlie did his early schooling in PEI, Quebec, and New Brunswick. He was overjoyed to be accepted into the RCMP in 1963, beginning an over 40-year career in policing and justice. Posted to Hamilton, ON, it was through visits to the local bank that Charlie met Judy Fiddes, who was charmed by the handsome young police officer with the rhyming name. Married in Truro in 1968, with his Uncle the Reverend Dr. Charles Taylor officiating, Charlie and Judy were pleased to begin their life together with a posting to St. John’s, NL. While living in St. John’s and Goose Bay, Labrador, they welcomed two daughters before returning to Nova Scotia for postings to Antigonish, Windsor, Bridgewater, Amherst, and a move to Charlottetown, PEI. In 1991, Charles retired from the RCMP and returned to Amherst where he spent six fulfilling years as Chief of Police. After leaving policing in 1997, Charles worked for the Nova Scotia Department of Justice. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Judy; daughters Kathryn (Geoff Davis), and Kristina (Ron Bates) both of Dartmouth; granddaughter Hillary Davis, currently studying in Menton, France; sister Susan Parsons (Norm) of Rocky Harbour, NL, niece and nephew Katie and Luke Parsons, and many closely connected members of the Fiddes family. He was predeceased by his mother Audrey Parlee (nee Taylor), father Sherman Parlee and wife Kay, and Uncle and Aunt Charles and Charlotte Taylor. The family would like to acknowledge the compassionate care of Nova Scotia EHS paramedics and emergency room staff at Colchester East Hants Health Centre. Through the last few years, we have been supported by so many friends and family, including neighbours and friends from far away: we have appreciated all of your calls and visits. Additional thanks to the Colchester Seniors Clinic and Earth Angels Homecare, in particular Jessica with whom Charlie enjoyed many Tuesday afternoon visits.

PENNEY, Arlene Patricia – Age 77, Truro. It is with great sadness we share the passing of our dear mother, Arlene Patricia Penney, who left us on February 18, 2023 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, at the age of 77, after a long battle with  COPD. She was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her. She had many friends and was loved dearly by her large extended family. She is survived by her son, Gary Penney and wife, Lynn, Adrie, Alberta and son, Ron Penney and wife, Suzzanne, Truro, and all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren in both Nova Scotia and Alberta. Arlene was predeceased by her sister, Lorraine Baird and brother-in-law, Basil Baird, Great Village; brother, Charlie Pearce, Ontario; mother, Nan Dorothy Wheeler; stepfather, Ralph Wheeler and father, Charles Pearce, all of Newfoundland. MacGILLIVRAY, Roland Joseph - Age 79, Valley. Our dearest husband, father and brother, passed away surrounded by his family on February 19, 2023, in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro after a long courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. Born in New Glasgow on November 4, 1943, he was a son of late John D. and Mae MacGillivray. Rollie, as he was affectionately known, worked in Boston for the banks for a few years, before returning to Nova Scotia. He worked for nearly three decades in the finance industry, achieving numerous awards. Rollie loved the outdoors, gardening, long walks with the dogs, his grandkids and being at the cottage in Mt. Thom. He and Barb travelled the world, but his favourite trip was with the family to Prince Edward Island. He was always involved in all aspects of his children's lives, whether he was coaching baseball or as Cub Scout leader. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Angus, Henry, Joey, John "Buddy" and his sister, Mary Christine. Lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years, Barbara (Currie) MacGillivray; his children, Scott (Mary) MacGillivray, Jennifer (Scott) Hartlen, Tim MacGillivray and Patrick MacGillivray; his grandchildren, Nicholas, William, Jaden and Landen; his sisters, Marie, Ann Louise, Rose, Judy and brother, Frank as well as several nieces and nephews. MacLellan, Agnes Patricia "Pat" - It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Agnes Patricia "Pat" MacLellan. She was born to the late Peter and Violet (MacLean) MacKay in Inverness on October 19,1945. Pat passed away suddenly at home on Friday, December 9, 2022, at the age of 77 years. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, Peter; daughters, Lynn (Donnie) Montgomery, Monica (Brad) Thomsen, Michelle Kane (Doug); grandchildren, Ashley (Morgan), Jennifer (Matt), Tim (Kelsie), Chase (Tiffany), Alicia (Nathan), Brittany (Jon), Peter (Aleigh) and Kailey; great grandchildren, Will, Zachary, Penny, Samuel, Gabby, Paisley, Blayke, Preacher and Mira. Also survived by brother, John L. MacKay (Virginia); brothers-in-law, Joe and Norman; sisters-in-law, Mary, Jessie, Chris, Kaye, Peggy, Dilla and Theresa as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Pat was very loyal to her family and friends. Instead of turning you in for a crime, she’d be your alibi. We all knew that if we needed to talk to Pat, it could never be during her late-night calls to Audrey. She had a strong personality with the kindest of hearts. Pat was very talented with crafts, quilts for the grandchildren, her music talent, and her mischievous adventures with the ladies, Audrey, Joyce, Marj, and Margaret. Pat attended Success Business College in Truro, worked as a secretary for many years then moved into homecare work where she found her passion working with critically ill and seniors. The family wish to express their sincere appreciation to the nurses at Colchester Medical Day unit who provided years of care for her, special thanks to Mary, Bria, Nancy, Catherine, Kathleen, Dr Rowe, and her family physician, Dr. Sushil Sharma. We want to express our deepest gratitude to Audrey Bailey who went above and beyond putting her own needs aside to help whenever needed over these past difficult years. PARIS, Jerome Calvin – Age 84, Truro, loving known as "Junior" and affectionately called "Bloat" passed away in the Mira Nursing Home on December 12, 2022. Born and raised in Truro, he was the son of Calvin Gibson and the late Phyllis "Patty" Pitts (nee Paris). He is survived by his sister, Wanda Pitts of Calgary; his aunt, June Harrington (Paris) of Winnipeg; many cousins and extended family members.

Besides his mother, Junior was predeceased by his uncles, Ralph Burton Paris and James Paris and his aunts, Kathleen Cummings (Paris) and Shirley Reddick (Paris). Junior worked for many years as a handyman in the town of Truro and his specialty was digging holes. He was always open to a full day of work and was always on time. He enjoyed playing cards (crazy 8's and 45's) and listening to music but, his greatest enjoyment was spending time with family and friends. He was a friend to all and his home was open to everyone. Junior had a love for conversation and was very opinionated. With a quick wit and a sharp tongue, he had a knack for telling it like it is. He had a feistiness and stubbornness that served him well throughout his life. Junior will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by family, friends and community members. The family would like to express their gratitude to his caregivers, Kevin and Pat Jackson for their dedication, compassion and exceptional care. The family would also like to thank the staff of the Mira nursing home for their continued support over the last four and a half years.

TOMPKINS, Marie Adele - It is with great sadness that the family of Marie Adele Tompkins announce her passing on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at the age of 55 years after a brief battle with cancer. Marie will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 32 years, Kevin; children, Melissa (Matt), Stephanie (Bob); grandchildren, Winnie and Harper; mother, Dora; siblings, Johanne (Jean-Gillis), Gorden (Monique), Dorena (Thom), Donna (Pat) and numerous other family members and friends. She was predeceased by her father, Clifford Delaney. Marie was born in Waltham, Massachusetts and moved to Grand Étang, NS at age two. Marie attended NDA High School where she excelled academically and athletically in volleyball and cheerleading. She graduated from St. FX University in 1988 and went on to work with Air Atlantic where she made some lifelong friends. She met the love of her life and best friend at age sixteen and they married in 1990. After starting a family, she went back to school and received a diploma in Modern Information Technology. Marie then worked at Crossley Carpets for several years before she began working as an Administrative Assistant with CCRCE in 2002. At the time of her illness, she was working in Bible Hill Consolidated Elementary School where she thoroughly enjoyed the BHC community, especially her relationships with her colleagues. Marie’s love of sports continued throughout her adult life, playing volleyball, tennis, golf and running where her talent, focus and competitiveness shone through. Her calm demeanor was a perfect compliment for her overzealous partner. Other hobbies included baking, crafting and enjoying her beautiful grandkids. The family would like to thank the Health Care professionals at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre and the QEII hospital for their care and compassion throughout Marie’s treatment. We also want to thank Dr. Stephanie Snow, Dr. Don Rowe and the Palliative Care Team – Dr. Cortney Smith and Cheryl Graham – for going above and beyond with their care of Marie. MacKENZIE, Carol Ann, - 73, Greenfield, passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro on December 23, 2022. Born in Truro to the late Raymond and Ruth Casey. Carol was a bright shining light in a dark world who will be forever loved and sadly missed.

Carol is survived by her son, Bob MacKenzie (Donnalee) and her beloved granddaughter, Abigail for whom she loved "to the moon and back". She is also survived by her sisters, Brenda Mosher (Jim) and Pat Findlay (Kevin); brothers, Glen Casey (Karen), Kenneth Casey (Patti), Chris Casey (Sonya), Timmy Casey (Beth), Paul Casey; sisters-in-law, Zilpha MacKenzie, Mary Ann Rutherford, Bonita MacDonald (Terry); brothers-in-law, Larry MacKenzie (Faye), George MacKenzie (Rhoda) along with numerous nieces and nephews on both sides of the family whom she loved as if they were her own. She was predeceased by the love of her life, Sedley Earl MacKenzie; her parents, Raymond and Ruth Casey; sister, Debbie Jordan; parents-in-law, Earl and Gwendolyn MacKenzie. In the early years of her career, Carol worked as a seamstress at Stanfield’s Ltd. Later, she took courses to become a Continuing Care Assistant and worked as a CCA for several years. She also worked as an Educational Assistant in schools in the area. Carol went back to Stanfield’s Ltd for a few years until she retired. She was also very involved in the Connection (Wesleyan) Church for over 40 years. Carol was a very kind and gentle soul, making her the best mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend anyone could ask for. She had a way of making you feel like the most important person in the room, always giving you her complete attention. Family was most important to Carol. She looked forward to every family get together. She was a fabulous cook/baker and always brought a spread to any family or church function. Delicious homemade meals and homemade bread were always readily available in her home. You never left hungry. She would always walk you to the door at the end of a visit. Without fail, if you looked back as you were leaving the driveway, you would see her standing in the porch window smiling and waving.

During her short but very courageous battle with cancer, she faced it head on and said "I’m not giving up" numerous times. She had a very strong faith which gave her peace in her final days. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, NS where a visitation was held December 28 and a service at on Friday, December 30 with Pastor Luke Anderson officiating. A private interment will be held at Greenfield Cemetery at a later date. AUGUSTINE, Kevin Joseph "Stud" – Age 55, Millbrook. It is with saddened hearts we announce the sudden passing of our much-loved son, brother, father, grandfather and uncle, Kevin Joseph Augustine on December 24, 2022, at his home. He was born in New Castle, NB, a son of Noel Augustine, Burnt Church and the late Theresa Sylliboy–Sickles, Truro. Kevin is survived by his daughter, Autumn Augustine (Brandon); sons, Cole Augustine-Bernard, Tevin Brooks (Rosalie) and Geronimo Sylliboy-Augustine, all of Millbrook; his grandchildren, Kyson, Dryden, Marley, Oliver, Renezeme, Atticus and Charlie; his sisters, Karen Augustine, Dartmouth and Norella Simon, Burnt Church; his brothers, James Augustine (Penny), Debert, Elvis Augustine and Charles Augustine, both of Burnt Church, John Augustine (Kim), Truro and Michael Sylliboy (Sheena), Millbrook; sisters-in-law, Joanne Cope and Courtney Cope, both of Millbrook. Besides his mother, he was predeceased by his wife, Sharon; daughter, Rebecca Augustine; sisters, Karla, Tammy and Kelly Augustine and brother, Isaac.

Kevin enjoyed bowling, fishing, playing softball, cleaning and going for walks. He was very friendly and always had a smile on his face. He was kind to everyone he met. He was affectionately nicknamed, "Stud" – a real ladies’ man. Kevin was an awesome Grandad to Kyson and spent a lot of time with his #1. He was that special uncle to his nieces and nephews, always making sure to check-in on them often. He was a great stepdad, treating all like they were his own. Kevin radiated kindness and had a loving heart for everyone he knew. A visitation was held January 2^nd in the Millbrook Seniors’ Centre, 841 Willow Street, Millbrook. Funeral Mass was held January 4^th in the Sacred Heart Church, Church Road, Millbrook with burial at a later date. Cremation will follow services. MANN, Joy Patricia (Lewis), Truro, passed away on December 26, 2022, in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Chatham, N.B. on May 3, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Allan W. and Ruth E. (MacNaughton) Lewis. Joy grew up in Chatham and later moved to Penfield for a short time during World War II. The family then moved to Shediac Cape where they were living when she graduated from Moncton High School in 1952. She later graduated from the Moncton School of Nursing (1955) and then she received a diploma in Psychiatric Nursing from McGill University. She was active in her Riverview, NB community being involved with the Girl Guides and Boy Scouts in the 1970’s; then after moving to Nova Scotia in 1980, she was involved with the Hilden United Church and Hilden community. Many of the official and unofficial groups and activities where she devoted her time included: Eastern Star, Craft groups, United Church of Canada, Clifton Pastoral Charge, U.C.W., Seekers, Church Elder, Maritime Conference, Tea gatherings and Mom’s taxi service. Joy is survived by her husband, O. Stewart "Stew" Mann; children, Donald, Brian, Trevor (Heather) and Jocelyn (Mike) Cruickshank; grandchildren, Mitchel, Alison, Gage, Heath and Jacob; sister-in-law, Shirley Lewis; many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by close friends, Audrey and Ron Jones, Carol Gordon and Derrick Palmer. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother, George A. CURRIE, M. Faye - Age 77, of Amherst, formerly of Five Islands, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan. Born in Springhill, she was a daughter of the late Harvey and Emma (Cooke) McCarthy. She is survived by daughters, Evelyn Currie (Ken Boudreau), Amherst; Kathryn Paul (Scott), East Mapleton; brothers, Raymond (Rose), Springhill; Ronald (Susan), Lower Five Islands; 3 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Arthur Currie in 1987; her companion of 27 years, Leslie Eagles in 2015; a brother, Curtis. MacLEAN, Janet Elaine - Age 71, Debert. It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Janet Elaine (Fisher) MacLean on Friday, January 13, 2023, at home. Janet was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. She was a daughter of the late George and Elaine Fisher of Peterborough, Ontario.

Janet was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and mother-in-law. She is survived by her husband, David MacLean; daughters, Patty (Louis) Robichaud and Paula (Craig) Betts; grandchildren, Jocelyn, John David (JD), Brooklyn Robichaud, Brandon and Zack Betts and her brother, Lorne Fisher of Burlington Ontario. She was predeceased by her sister, Bonnie Lloyd and brothers, Ron and David Fisher. Aside from love, a thread that was woven and connected the family was humour. Humour at both appropriate times and also inappropriate times, which is where Janet earned her nickname from her grandchildren as, "bad Nana". As fate would have it, a small-town boy went to Toronto and met a young city girl. The stars aligned one December night back in 1966 at Toronto City Hall. As he skated by, she caught his eye in a crowd. This beautiful love story built on love, respect and friendship lasted many decades. She was the love of his life, and he was hers. Janet’s greatest love was her family. She loved her tranquil oasis that she and dad built together in the backyard. She loved her sunrises and sunsets and bonfires with her family. She loved sitting by the pool while listening to Motown and the wind in the trees. A special thank you to Dr. Blaauwendraat and Cindy from the Truro Collaborative Practice, as well as the Palliative Care Team, Dr. Smith and Angela McDonnell, who provided such heartfelt, exceptional care of our mother and tremendous support to the entire family. In Janet’s memory, you may donate to the Colchester Food Bank or give blood and help save a life. A celebration of life will be held in May of 2023, details to be announced.
